Because everyone deserves to look their best in whichever way they wish and wearing whatever they wish to There's also some weird gender specific advantages to equips such as lightsoulms.boards.net/thread/43/make-male-version-sky-shark and lvl 35 oa for thieves, male characters don't get those weird enough Now let's hear the communities opinion. This is one of those design quirks about Maplestory I like. It adds a bit of challenge to finding the right gear that fits your character, and of course it helps everyone look a little more unique. If you make all equipments genderless, then what was even the point of choosing one to begin with? Next thing you know we might just say make all hairstyle and faces genderless too.
I know there's some disparity between some genders and gear balance, but that could be fixed with a few custom tweaks and additions - not nuking the whole system.

I think it would be a nice idea to make all equipment, hairstyles and everything else genderless.

i'm entirely for making cosmetic equipment genderless. There's merit in keeping regular equips gender locked, making them genderless would solve the discrepancies between the armour sets (which aren't necessarily a problem depending on what the staff want), it it also make it easier to gear up in general since there would be more armour you could use. (which again isn't necessarily a problem it just depends on what the staff wants to do.)
