Love Our Planet Event
Event Duration: Friday, April 16 00:00 to Friday, April 30 00:00
Plastic is all around us. We eat, sleep, and breathe pollution. Our world is driving us into a lifestyle that harms ourselves and our planet. We've all heard it before. This event, we're shifting the focus to reaching out of our usual comforts and trying something new that improves our environment and well-being. Participants may choose to submit in one or multiple categories listed below. Event Categories: 1.) Winston's Planting TreesTrees take in carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. They're also a source of food, shelter, and beautify landscaping. Happen to have the circumstances to add a tree to your yard/neighbourhood, or able to take part in a tree-planting program locally? Share your project with us! Just be sure you do your research for the right tree and plant it properly to keep it healthy. How to Plant a Tree2.) Planters Plant PlantingNot everyone can go plant a tree, and trees aren't the only beneficial planting project. Even a small scale garden can go a long way for the local bee population. Home grown vegetables? More yummy food for your tummy. Gardening for BeginnersBalcony Gardening Ideas3.) In-Planting is In
If you can't go outside, bring the outside in. Indoor plants can do a lot of good in improving indoor air quality and mood. Here's some ideas for plants you can adopt for your game/work space. (Disclaimer: pay attention to the toxicity rating if you have pets that might be tempted to chew on your plants.) Indoor Plant Ideas4.) A New Life
They say one man's junk is another man's treasure. What about turning a man's junk into their own treasure? That empty container from that tub of ice cream you just finished could be repurposed into a planter for your new window garden, a basket to hold miscellaneous items, your imagination is the limit. Share your creative idea projects here! An Example with Tin Cans Rules/Submission Requirements:- Your IGN somewhere in the photo of your project - 'LightSoulMS' written somewhere in the photo of your project - Brief description of what you did Participation Prizes:- 20 LightSoul Points - Maple World Chair

IGN: Kat Description: Category 1.) Winston's Planting Trees Kat must confess: this project was 2 years ago, and there is no opportunity to plant another tree this year. :c So maybe not the best example, but if you can imagine the tree when it still had the store tag on it, this will have to do. Description: Category 2.) Planters Plant Planting It's still too cold out and these baby squash shoots need to be nurtured indoors a little longer before being planted outside, but here they are! :3 Description: Category 3.) In-Planting is In Bought meself a little snake plant, I hear they do really well with air-purifying! Description: Category 4.) A New Life Used up all the tea leaves that were in this tin, now it's been repurposed to hold my fairy lights. I covered the text using a chalk pen, then did my own doodles to make it prettier~

So, this probably counts as #2, if anything. Here's the story...
I had moved into a new condo last September. It only has a small front "yard" or perhaps courtyard is a better description. Over half of the area is covered by a concrete porch, and some kind of tiles are overlaid on top of that. At the time I moved in, there was only really dirt and two trees. But now look how it's grown!
This is my "grass". And one of the trees. But actually, as you can probably tell, it's all "weeds". That's right, my front yard is pretty much covered in weeds.
But I like my weeds, and I decided that whatever happened, I was just going to take care of them. They were small things in the winter, but they stayed green even when they got covered in a few inches of snow. Since then I fertilized the ground and have been watering my plants regularly. Personally, I never liked the activity of pulling weeds. Not only was it time consuming work, you are still killing poor little plants.
Here are their flowers up close. And I'm sure you know what the white puffy stuff is. Lots of weed babies! It reminds me of the puffy stuff you have to jump over in the Sleepywood jump quests.
And I almost forgot. Had to have LightSoulMS and an IGN here.
Anyway, that's all.
TLDR: my front yard is full of weeds but I still like taking care of them. Just remember: a weed is only a flower in the wrong place!

I planted these flowers about two weeks ago. I think I over watered them and now they're drowning. There are zinneas (front), morning glories (back, right), and African daisies (back, left).

IGN: Luna Categories: 1,2,3,4 Me and my dad are currently working on planting various vegetables as well as strawberries, blackcurrant and a new lawn because the old one was sinking and withering. while we were at it, I figured we might as well plant a bloodgood japanese maple tree next to our 2 year old maple tree Ooops, I managed to put my forum name on the paper and not my IGN.. I also had to make a "testing ground" indoors for our new grass seeds to see if they were really growing(the ones outdoors are really taking their time in this cold weather). So I turned a few milk cartons into a miniature lawn and surely they started to grow after a week or so. I can't find the picture right now so I'll probably take a new one before the event ends (Seeing that the images arent showing up right now, you can also right click on them to view in a new tab!)

In-Planting is In
Becoming a plant father was one of the hobbies I took up during quarantine, and it's been a hobby that I've always wanted to get into but never had the... gall to? While I am not too attuned with the actual physical benefits of keeping plants in your space, I like the idea of it. I think about how they provide more oxygen, make my living space livelier, and I like knowing I can take care of life. Attached below is a tour of my plants. I moved them outside so they're easier to photograph because today's lighting was a bit off but I attached a picture of my bedroom so you guys know I keep them inside my room! First up is Mer! She is a golden pothos. I got her first alongside Emily, who is below. Pothos are very fast growing and they tend to be expansive so I usually have to prune her a lot. Out of all of my plants, who do not need much water, she is probably the one who drinks a lot. Next up is Emily, she is a snake plant like Kat's above. She is also fast growing like the golden pothos. The reason why some of her leaves are in half is because I was still a new plant father in the beginning and overwatered her often so it was me snipping away the rot. She is the biggest, and got out of control verrry fast.
This is Zach and he's known as a ZZ plant which was advertised to be a plant that is as hardy as a succulent but grows like faster in comparison. I am particularly fond of him because I really love how his leaves grow. Unlike his sisters above, he grows sproadically. I remember over a week he sprouted six different stalks then it was quiet for a few months until he sprouted another. He is particularly more vulnerable to overwatering though.
This is Shayan and he is a peacock plant. Fun fact about him and his brother Martin, I ordered them back in November and he didn't arrive to me for a month because of the whole postal system debacle where no one was getting their packages. By the time I got them on New Years, both of them were on the brink of death and I was very concerned about whether or not they'd make it. You can see the battle scars because most of Shayan's leaves have crisp endings and rips, except for the two that fortunately blossomed during the winter. He has honestly been the most temperamental, and I had a lot of difficulty keeping him alive because he has very particular care techniques which include overwatering is very fatal without much room for mistakes and he is very bad at filtering fluoride if you water him with tap water! He also randomly points up and closes his leaves so sometimes I think he'll come to life like a triffid and kill me.
Last, but not least, this is Martin and he is a swiss cheese plant. I showed him off to Squishy a few weeks ago and Aki asked why he looked like he's been massacred by a caterpillar. Alas, that is simply his face. He was stuck in a dank box of a UPS/FedEx/USPS warehouse alongside his brother. When I got him, most of his leaves were yellow. Unlike his brother, however, he quickly became green, sprouted three new leaves, and is simply vibing while his brother was on the brink of death. Even if he is not as aesthetically pleasing as his siblings, he was the plant I had to care the least for. However, he does have a bit of root rot because I was still trying to understand how often he has to be watered.
And finally, here is a picture of the bookshelf behind my bed where I usually put my plants. Because it's warmer, I tend to move them outside onto my patio in the shade so they can catch fresh oxygen and a bit of sunlight. Shayan and Martin are on the black nightstand while everyone else is on the white bookshelf. I would post a picture of my bedroom but I don't feel like cleaning~
As a general notes I took from my year of being a plant parent, overwatering tends to be the main reason why plants die. Just feel if the soil is wet or not then water with your discretion. Also, plants really hate tap water so buy purified water from your grocery store or leave out pans whenever it rains and water your plants with that (I'd advise against leaving your plants out because if you forget you can also overwater your plants like that!) Whenever you buy plants, try to find a nursery and avoid the clearance rack in hardware stores or gardening centers because those tend to be on the way out anyway!
